First of all I’d like to offer a delayed welcome to Terence who actually joined us for the first time last month and submitted his first piece of writing to this month’s meeting. It was great to read your work and we’re looking forward to reading more of the same in the future.
Our venue, MadLab, is certainly looking very different after a recent facelift. Still a lot of work to do but it’s a huge improvement. Please feel free to keep your donations dropping into our group’s PayPal account (the button over there on the right) and thanks again to those people who have contributed in the last few weeks. Once we have enough funds we will make another donation to MadLab.
Before I get started with the critiques a quick announcement — and thanks to Eliza for the initial heads-up on this — Eastercon is coming to Manchester next year! Eastercon is the UK’s #1 science fiction writing event of the year so it’s obviously fantastic news that it’s going to land on our doorstep. Eastercon usually runs from Thursday through to Sunday which would make it the 24th to 27th March 2016. Get those dates pencilled into your diaries right now!
Apologies for not being able to attend this month’s meeting and thanks to everyone who helped out, especially Graeme for taking notes and posting details on our Facebook group. Here’s a copy of these notes for posterity. See you all next month! Continue reading
First of all I’d like to offer a warm welcome to our latest new member Truong Mellor. Thanks for your critiques. We’re looking forward to reading your sci-fi / crime fiction over the coming months.
Chilly meeting last night but we should be back at MadLab again for next month. There was actually some last minute confusion about whether we would be back there last night or not. To the doubters, yes, MadLab is a real place! (I think.) Keep an eye on the Facebook group or this website and I’ll confirm venues nearer the time.
Welcome back! I hope you all had a relaxing holiday and you’re ready for another busy year. I’d like to welcome Sean who attended his first meeting last night; you gave great feedback with just a couple of days’ access to DropBox.
Apologies from Bronwyn. She wasn’t able to attend last night’s meeting due to the weather, so her submission — the first chapter from her novel ‘Green’ — will remain in DropBox to be critiqued at next month’s meeting.
On with the crits!
Merry Christmas everyone! And a big welcome to Bronwin and Matt who attended their first meeting last night.
Excellent meeting with thirteen attendees and five pieces of writing to critique. We also enjoyed copious quantities of mince pies and hot mulled wine. There were four submissions discussed during the meeting itself and a fifth over at Common afterwards. That leaves a clear DropBox for next month’s submissions.
Thanks to everyone who attended last night’s meeting. We sometimes see a drop-off in numbers around this time of year so it was great to see you all. Dedication to the cause!
We should be back at MadLab for next month’s meeting but keep an eye on the Facebook group for details.
Update 26th November: we will be at Federation House again for the December and January meetings.
Thanks to everyone who attended last night’s meeting and a hearty welcome to Eliza Chan who joined us for the first time. Eliza is a former member of the Glasgow SF group and writes fantasy / weird fiction.
Before we start with the critiques I’d like to remind everyone that we should be back at MadLab next month but please keep checking this website or the Facegroup group for details nearer the time.
